The province's major ski area, Dachstein-Tauern, lies in northwest Styria. The Dachstein, in the Salzkammergut, is a gigantic alpine mountain range cutting across Land Salzburg, Upper Austria, and Styria, with mammoth glaciers lying between its peaks. The Enns River separates the Dachstein and the Tauern massifs. Championship ski races are held here, and it's a great place for powder skiing.

To see more of West Styria, stay in either Rohrmoos or Schladming, south of Bad Aussee, and use these resorts as a center for exploring the alpine mountain range of Dachstein-Tauern.
