Just beyond the port of Pisco, the growing coastal town of Paracas has drawn attention for the natural attractions in abundance at the nearby Ballestas Islands and Paracas National Reserve. It’s primarily a tourist town made up of a growing number of resorts from major international and national hotel brands, tour operators, and cevicherías. While there are beaches within the reserve, most of the beaches in the resort area are man-made, and the water tends to be murky, a primary reason why the pools are so great. The area can be extremely windy, particularly in the afternoons, which makes the bay ideal for wind- and kitesurfing.
